On Saturday 5th October, children and young people leaders from across Coventry and Warwickshire gathered at Whitnash Methodist Church for Thrive’s annual conference, Transform.

Over 45 leaders, both volunteers and employed, met to discuss, pray and be inspired to enable the next generation to discover the love of Christ for themselves.

After an opening session and worship led by the youth worship team, workshops were led by Jon Mills from Youth for Christ, Coventry, Kyle McKinnon from Reign Ministries and John Yates from Northampton Association of Youth Clubs, along with Andy and Fiona from the Thrive team.

Topics of workshops included:

  • Encouraging children to pray
  • Faith development in young people
  • How to run a youth group with only a few young people
  • Outreach to children and their families
  • Mentoring young people
  • Mental health in children and young people

The workshops gave leaders a chance to talk about what has worked well and what challenges they face in their different churches.

A closing session entitled ‘Replenishing the bucket’ closed the day.

Lots of leaders felt that the day was a great chance to step back and look at the bigger picture of the children and youth work in their church and consider the ‘big vision’.  Feedback about the day was overwhelmingly positive with some of the comments below.

“Practical and inspiring”

“Some lovely creative ideas”

“Atmosphere is relaxed and the approach is accommodating”

“More of the same please!”

Here at Thrive we were so encouraged to hear about what is happening in churches all over the Coventry and Warwick area.

We can’t wait for next year’s Transform conference!
