Thrive’s Youth and Children’s Work Network aims to foster connection and collaboration amongst youth and children’s workers across Warwickshire and Coventry, and to enable opportunities with lasting impact for young people in the region. We asked our new Events & Courses Lead, Tim Crummack, to update us on the recent gathering.
Do you ever feel like you’re carrying the weight of youth ministry all by yourself? The Thrive Youth and Children’s Work Network wants you to know you’re not alone! There’s a whole community of passionate leaders in the Network just like you; eager to connect, share, and make a difference together.
Sometimes it’s hard to connect—maybe because of busy schedules, different traditions, distance between churches, or maybe we are just shy. But think about what unites us: We all want to introduce young people to Jesus and help them grow in faith. And, we have a wealth of experience to share. At our recent network gathering, we found we had over 448 years of collective youth experience in the room!
Why Networking Matters in Ministry
Networking can really boost the effectiveness of a ministry. At The Thrive network, leaders meet new friends who “get it.” Swapping stories and ideas isn’t just fun and encouraging—it’s biblical too. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour; if either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” Networking with others means we can connect and collaborate. It helps us be more effective as we encourage each other when things get tough, and it helps us avoid feeling isolated. Hopefully, this will make work more joyful and helps leaders to reach even more young people with God’s love and message of hope.
Young people need that message of hope more than ever. They are facing increasing challenges with mental health struggles, social media drama, tough questions about identity, and more. But recent research and anecdotal evidence indicate they are also more open to exploring life with Jesus than ever before. These are diverse challenges that no one youth worker can tackle all alone! By joining forces, we can share wisdom, resources, and hope.
For example at a recent networking meeting, one of our members shared a touching story about a young person’s breakthrough moment at a youth event. The youth leader, who had been busy supporting other participants, was encouraged to hear about this significant change, especially since the young person, new to church, typically struggled to engage and could be disruptive. The other leaders in The Thrive network were also encouraged; recognising how God was at work in a challenging situation and could do the same for them.
Thrive’s Network Connects Youth & Children’s Ministries
There’s a vibrant mix of people and groups working with children and young people across the region, which is home to a diverse range of churches—big and small, old and new. Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal, Catholic, independent, rural, suburban and inner city —you name it! Every church brings something unique. Our diversity is something to celebrate, and it means there’s so much we can learn from each other.
So, coming to the Thrive network is a great way to meet colleagues from outside your own ministry bubble and discover new perspectives, good practice and new games. You’ll also find folk connected with other organisations such as Youth for Christ (YFC), Hope Coventry, Scripture Union, Urban Saints, who all offer awesome events and resources. So the Network becomes an “open Space” where the Lord can direct you to new opportunities. You never know who God will connect you up with.
Friendly Ways to connect with Thrive’s Network
Here are some easy, friendly ways to get involved in the Thrive Youth and Children’s Work Network:
1. Come along
Keep an eye out for our youth and children’s worker gatherings or training sessions on our website, or send us your contact details so we can let you know directly. Don’t be shy about travelling, you might meet someone who becomes a lifelong friend.
2. Take the First Step
If you meet someone at The Thrive Network doing similar work—maybe running a youth or children’s project like yours—reach out and introduce yourself! Suggest a meeting for coffee or a video chat. Most of the best friendships start with one person saying “hello.”
4. Share What You Have
The Thrive Network is a great place to share. Got a great curriculum, fun games, or a cool event space? Share it! Co-host events or swap resources; it will make everyone’s life easier and give young people and children even more to enjoy.
5. Pray Together
At the Thrive Network, we love to pray together. There’s nothing like praying with others to build a strong bond with other youth workers, asking God to guide you, unite, and bless your ministries.
6. Encourage Each Other
Youth ministry can be tough. Sometimes, all someone needs is a quick message or a listening ear. At the Thrive Network, we aim to look out for each other, celebrate each other’s wins, and help when things get hard.
Networking for the future
Young people’s needs are always changing—today it’s mental health, tomorrow it might be something new. The best way to stay ready is to stick together! Networking among Christian youth & children’s workers in Warwickshire and Coventry is only going to get more important as we look ahead.
Let’s keep building those bridges—across churches, towns, and traditions. When we unite, we share wisdom and creativity, and our ministries become stronger and more joyful. The young people we serve deserve our very best, and together, that’s exactly what we can give them.
