On Saturday 16th September local youth groups and young Christians from 17 different churches got together at St Paul’s Church, Warwick for Base, our BBQ & worship evening. It was amazing to have young people gathered from Leamington, Warwick, Coventry and wider the wider area. There was a fantastic buzz and a great atmosphere as God’s people got together, united in faith and friendship.

Everyone arrived at the beautiful church grounds where they were greeted and directed by volunteers in our brand-new high visibility Thrive jackets! It was good to welcome each person, as they arrived, whether coming alone, in small groups or some coming as a whole youth group.

At the beginning we all enjoyed some social time in the grounds participating in a variety of activities. There were groups of people chatting, a spontaneous game of football, and various other games including garden draughts and skittles, which some of the youth leaders got involved with alongside networking with other leaders. It was wonderful to have 27 youth leaders from our local area building on their relationships with their young people and spending time together. Great to see youth ministry in action!

We offered a delicious BBQ with many burgers, sausages, bread rolls, and salad (got to have something healthy!). Over the sharing of food, there were good conversations, and it was encouraging to see young people having a great time together. Given that we are in a post covid world that made it even more heartening to see young people mixing together in person. Overall, we had 95 young people of secondary school age, who made both the outdoor and indoor spaces feel busy, especially with all the youth leaders, stewards, and hospitality team.

The main focus of the gathering was inside the church, which began with some fun games led by Andy Castle (Thrive’s founder & CEO) alongside Mim and Dan who participated in Thrive’s Youth Growing Leaders Course last year. It was great to see their leadership skills put into action. Mim shared some of her testimony with everyone; it was so encouraging to hear her relate to those in her age group and to have that peer-to-peer witness. We enjoyed hearing Dan’s experience of being on Youth Growing Leaders and encouraging others to do this in the future.

There was some engaging teaching from Dave Boyle from Kenilworth Youth for Christ. He encouraged everyone to be looking up to the Lord. Rather than concentrating on looking inside to ourselves, we need to, instead, fix our focus on Jesus and on heavenly things. “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things”. Colossians 3:2

We glorified God through worshipping together. The worship was led by a band of young people from different churches, some of whom previously participated in Thrive’s Worship Course. It was fantastic to end on a high with everyone singing ‘Happy Day’ and getting into the spirit of the song by praising the Lord through joyful singing, clapping, and dancing. Even a few party canons unexpectedly went off in celebration!

We look forward to seeing more young people get together for our annual Basecamp youth weekend away from Friday 26th January – Sunday 28th January 2024. Basecamp is a weekend away for those of secondary school age at the Pioneer Centre in Shropshire.

We are excited about even more of God’s people gathering for another faith-filled weekend. It’s going to be epic! Young people come with those from their church youth group (youth leader included!). Everyone gets to know each other, build on their friendships, and meet other Christians their age who live nearby.

Thrive organises all the content, worship, teaching, activities, and admin allowing youth leaders to do what they are called to: invest time in their young people! Whether you’re a first timer or you’ve been before you are so welcome to come join us on the Basecamp adventure!
