In early September we welcomed Ryan McNair, James Yates and Dara Sousa to the team and we couldn’t be more thrilled! We took some time to ask them some questions so we all got to know them a bit better.

What brought you to Thrive?

I came to Thrive having worked as a Youth Worker in a church in Newcastle for the past 11 years. Due to my wife being offered a place to study at Warwick, to do a postgrad degree, I was looking for work. I met Andy and he told me about the Youth Mission Enabler role. After thinking, praying and talking about it more, I came for an interview and Thrive offered me the job.

What are your expectations?

I don’t know if it’s expectation or hopes, but I hope God is going to use me to serve churches, to serve young people; to use me to be a part of some exciting things in youth work in Warwickshire and Coventry. Hopefully, I can put my gifts to use for Him and His Kingdom.

What is your role?

As Youth Mission Enabler it is my role to work with churches to advise them and help them to get youth ministries off the ground, to help them with their existing youth ministries and to get sustainable, effective and exciting youth work happening in churches in the area.

What brought you to Thrive?

I saw what Thrive was doing, I’m from Northamptonshire, but I sort of saw Thrive from a far. I got to know Andy and I had the opportunity to lead a workshop at a Transform conference here a couple of years ago. I was really impressed about what Thrive stands for and what they aim to do at churches in Warwickshire and Coventry. So I saw the opportunity and I thought this was great!

What are your expectations?

I would love for churches to see that they have a lot to offer to the young people and it doesn’t matter what type of church they are, how big they are, or their style. There is something they can offer that is attractive to young people and can show and lead people to Jesus, because it’s something that they have got and they can offer. Any church can have a great and thriving youth ministry. How you do things is going to be different for every church and that is okay. We are called to be part of the body of Christ and we are not all the same, not all churches are the same, not all young people are the same.

What is your role?

As a Youth Mission Enabler my role is to help churches and guide them along this process, to start new things, to think differently, to embrace young people, to kind of lead them through the processes and to see new things emerge.

What brought you to Thrive?

For the past three and a half years I’ve been working in a job where I wasn’t really happy but I also wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do.  All I knew was that God had better things planned.

In September of 2019 I became an intern in my local church, which helped me to get out of my comfort zone and I started to see the gifts that the Lord has given me not just with youth work but with social media. So I decided to start looking for jobs, trying to find something where I could do both.

I came across Thrive and I was really interested in their work and what they stand for. When I came for the interview it was very clear that God was in this and that He had opened the right door at the right time.

What are your expectations?

I believe that God will do great and amazing things through Thrive. My passion is to see young people coming to Jesus and I believe that social media is a great tool to reach out to more people and to spread the good news. The opportunity is right in front of us and we just need to be bold and courageous to speak out!

What is your role?

As an Operations Assistant, I will be overseeing the administration of events and continue to develop communications with anyone who is involved with Thrive in any way. I will oversee and create content for social media that people can engage with! Basically I’m here to support the Thrive team in any way necessary.

We are so excited to have Ryan, James and Dara join our staff team. We long to see more children and young people come to faith and be discipled in local churches. Our expanding team means we are able to offer more help to more churches.

Please pray for them as they find their feet in their new roles, and for new openings with churches who want to reach out to young people in their communities.
