Young people urgently need the hope that only Jesus can offer.
The pandemic has upended young people’s worlds – their secular values have crumbled to dust overnight, their mental health is at an all-time low and they’re desperately searching for meaning to their lives: Who am I? Where do I belong? What am I doing here?
The answers can of course best be found in Jesus – and we believe young people are ready to listen like never before to His life-changing message of hope.
But who will share the hope of the gospel with them?
Few young people are in church, and just 20% of churches in Warwickshire and Coventry have youthwork programmes.
But there’s good news – and an unprecedented opportunity!
Many churches have realised that they need to radically overhaul the way they do youthwork – to put it at the centre, involve the whole church and reach out to young people beyond the church.
But they don’t know where to start.
So we plan to take on a new Mission Enabler to get right alongside them and provide hands-on help. We’ll help churches with existing youthwork to strengthen it. And we’ll work with those who have none to swiftly build strong foundations and a programme of youthwork for the 21st Century. (You can read more here)
The cost is £34,000. We’ve already raised £22,500, we just need £11,500 more (£5.90 an hour).
Longer term, potential church partners will fund this role, releasing the £34,000 back to Thrive, enabling us to employ another Mission Enabler – and so on, until we’ve supported every church that wants help.
