On Saturday 7th October over 70 leaders, coming from around 25 different local churches, gathered together for Thrive’s first Transform Conference. The Thrive team put on the Transform conference because we wanted to gather as many youth and children’s leaders as we could, to inspire them, to encourage them and to train them for all that God is asking them to do in reaching out to the emerging generations.
“It was a very interesting day. Thank you so much”
“All people working with this age group need this regularly”
“Great to meet others from churches around the area and share experiences/ideas”
Held at Dale Street Methodist Church in Leamington Spa, the day started off with a dramatic visual presentation from some young people from Christ Church, Leamington, as we focused on God’s grace and mercy.
Thrive’s CEO and founder, Andy Castle, spoke about how we need to make sure we are being transformed into Christ’s likeness ourselves, and to not neglect our own spiritual life as we invest in seeing others transformed. He then talked about how we can practically grow our youth and children’s groups, basing the key ingredients from a passage in Acts 2.
There were a variety of workshops throughout the day, giving leaders a choice menu to choose from, based on their own particular needs. Workshops included how to help young people love the Bible, how to create an effective All Age service, discipling young people in the 21st Century and partnering with your local school. We are so grateful to the speakers for these workshops, who gave up the day to be with us and who led the workshops so well and with genuine passion.
Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to share ideas, make new connections and to encourage one another. There was also the chance to hear more about how Thrive can help their churches to develop their ministry to children and young people.
“Very good and positive and I felt God as at work bringing things to individuals’ attention – well done and thank you”
“Thrive is amazing – I love the way they are helping us transform our work”
“Uplifting to see so many other people involved in children & youth work”
“There was something I could take away from every session”
(Feedback from some participants)
We intend to hold another Transform conference next year, with a tentative date set as Saturday 6th October 2018.
