I never realised that walking for 24 hours would be such an amazing experience. It was incredible to see God’s presence truly with Jo and me.
I’m pleased to say that Jo and I completed the challenge. There was one stage where we felt it was going to be almost impossible to continue. By the time we reached Coventry, our legs had given up. Having walked all through the night, we were in need of a sit down and new legs! The question going through our minds was, ‘how are we ever going to make it to Rugby?’ But God is so good and this is where the well-known verse is so true. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” (Philippians 4:13). Thanks to Starbucks in Coventry we were given a free breakfast! After drinking a coffee and eating a delicious warm sandwich, we stood up to carry on our walk and the aches and pains had completely gone. We even ran up the steps to the cathedral!
Linz, the Pastor from New Life Church in Warwick and two others from the church met us at around midnight, when we arrived at their church, to receive a most welcome cup of coffee and cake. They prayed for us before we set out through the night and asked God to send angels ahead of us and give protection over us.
We could have chosen any night to walk, but the night we walked, there happened to be another group doing a 24-hour run, so we had company on the road, which was really comforting. There was also an incident going on in Kenilworth which meant the police helicopter was hovering over us for the majority of the time we walked an unlit road, which felt very much like protection! What an answer to prayer!
In 24 hours, we covered Lillington, Leamington, Whitnash, Warwick Gates, Warwick, Leek Wootton, Kenilworth, Finham, Styvechale, Coventry City Centre, Binley, Rugby and Bilton. That’s 40 miles, 49 churches visited and over 100,000 steps. Having prayer support, text and Facebook messages of encouragement behind us all the way was incredible. It’s certainly an experience I will never forget and very possibly one I will never do again!
Thank you to everyone for your sponsorship, it means a lot to me and to Thrive. We are pleased to say that we have raised just over £2000 for Thrive Youth Ministries, to continue supporting these churches with their children’s and youth work.
